How to see your time spent on YouTube

Quick answer

YouTube doesn’t tell you how much time you spend watching videos. To see your watch time, install the free TubeWrapped extension in a desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera). It counts the time you actually spend watching videos, ads excluded, and shows your total and daily average by day, week, month and year.

Example YouTube Wrapped

What YouTube and your phone show you

On your phone, Digital Wellbeing (Android) and Screen Time (iPhone) show the time spent in the YouTube app. It’s a start, but it counts the time the app is open, not the time spent watching videos, and it only goes back a few days.

On a computer, YouTube gives you no total at all. So there’s no way to know how many hours you spent on YouTube this month, or over the whole year.

Your watch time, actually measured

TubeWrapped measures the time a video is actually playing. You get precise numbers that are easy to read:

  • Total timeThe number of hours spent on YouTube over the chosen period.
  • Daily averageThe time you spend on YouTube on a typical day.
  • Busiest dayThe day you watched the most, with its total.
  • Times of dayWhen you watch the most: morning, evening or night.
  • EvolutionYour watch time day by day and month by month, as a chart.
  • Time per creatorHow many hours you spent on each of your channels.

Ads are never counted, and Shorts are measured separately: you can include or exclude them to see how much they weigh in your total time.

Compare your time from one period to the next

Every total is compared with the previous period. At a glance, you see whether you spent more or less time on YouTube than the week, month or year before.

Share and compare your Wrapped with friends

TubeWrapped is also a small social network around YouTube: pick a username, add your friends and see what they watch.

  • Add friends by searching for their username.
  • Compare your stats: watch time, videos watched, favorite creators.
  • Share your Wrapped as a single image on social media.
  • Public or private account: you decide who sees your stats.

How to see your time spent on YouTube with TubeWrapped

TubeWrapped is a browser extension. Once installed, it uses what you watch on YouTube to calculate your time spent on YouTube, among other things. There’s nothing to export or set up: three steps are enough.

What happens next?

Nothing else to do. Keep watching YouTube as usual and your stats update on their own: the extension syncs automatically every two hours. Switch between the Year and Month views to follow how your habits change.
