YouTube watch time tracker: how to follow your watch time

Quick answer

YouTube doesn’t track your watch time over time. To follow it, install the free TubeWrapped extension in a desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera): it measures every day the time you actually spend watching videos, ads excluded, and shows how it changes week after week.

Why track your time on YouTube?

One video leads to another, and the hours fly by. Tracking your watch time means seeing in black and white how much room YouTube takes in your days, spotting the days you watch the most and seeing whether your habits change.

YouTube keeps no total of your time. TubeWrapped measures it for you, day after day, and keeps the whole history.

Your time, tracked day after day

  • Every dayYour watch time for the day, updated every two hours.
  • Every weekYour weekly total and your daily average.
  • Evolution chartYour time day by day and month by month, to see the trends.
  • Activity calendarA heatmap of the year to spot your busiest days.
  • StreaksYour longest streak of consecutive days on YouTube.
  • Record dayThe day you watched the most, with its total.

Ads are never counted, and you can include or remove Shorts from your time.

Compare your weeks and months

Every total is compared with the previous period: more or less time than last week? Than last month? You see it at a glance, with the increase or decrease shown.

Share and compare your Wrapped with friends

TubeWrapped is also a small social network around YouTube: pick a username, add your friends and see what they watch.

  • Add friends by searching for their username.
  • Compare your stats: watch time, videos watched, favorite creators.
  • Share your Wrapped as a single image on social media.
  • Public or private account: you decide who sees your stats.

How to track your YouTube time with TubeWrapped

TubeWrapped is a browser extension. Once installed, it uses what you watch on YouTube to calculate your watch time day after day, among other things. There’s nothing to export or set up: three steps are enough.

What happens next?

Nothing else to do. Keep watching YouTube as usual and your stats update on their own: the extension syncs automatically every two hours. Switch between the Year and Month views to follow how your habits change.
