YouTube viewing statistics: how to see your viewing habits

Quick answer

YouTube doesn’t show you your viewing habits. There’s a companion tool for YouTube, TubeWrapped, that shows when you watch videos, how much time you spend on them, which formats you prefer and which channels you watch most, so you better understand how you use YouTube. To use it, install the extension for free on a desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera).

Beyond watch time: your habits

Knowing how many hours you spend on YouTube is one thing. Knowing how you watch is another: at what time, on which days, short or long videos, all the way through or skipping around.

YouTube gives you none of this. TubeWrapped calculates it from what you actually watch.

Your viewing statistics

  • Favorite hoursThe time of day when you watch the most, with your activity peak.
  • Most active daysThe days of the week when you spend the most time on YouTube, on average.
  • FormatsThe share of short, medium and long videos in what you watch.
  • Videos finishedHow many videos you watch all the way through.
  • Longest sessionYour longest uninterrupted viewing session.
  • Average time per videoHow long you stay on a video, on average.
  • New creatorsThe new channels you discovered over the period.
  • And much more…Your Shorts, your day-by-day activity and other surprises to discover.

Your viewer profile

Based on your habits, TubeWrapped gives you a profile: night owl if you mostly watch at night, binge-watcher if you string together long sessions, channel surfer if you jump quickly from one video to the next, explorer if you watch lots of different channels… A quick way to see what kind of viewer you are.

And since every number is compared with the previous period, you instantly see whether your habits change from one month to the next.

Share and compare your Wrapped with friends

TubeWrapped is also a small social network around YouTube: pick a username, add your friends and see what they watch.

  • Add friends by searching for their username.
  • Compare your stats: watch time, videos watched, favorite creators.
  • Share your Wrapped as a single image on social media.
  • Public or private account: you decide who sees your stats.

How to see your viewing statistics with TubeWrapped

TubeWrapped is a browser extension. Once installed, it uses what you watch on YouTube to calculate your viewing habits, among other things. There’s nothing to export or set up: three steps are enough.

What happens next?

Nothing else to do. Keep watching YouTube as usual and your stats update on their own: the extension syncs automatically every two hours. Switch between the Year and Month views to follow how your habits change.
